I once watched a movie titled “unholy” where a young man was running out of town because of a young girl who was believed to have a connection with Mary the mother of Jesus in the Bible and she would touch a sick person and the person will be healed.
She was said to believe that Mary the mother of Jesus in the Bible was talking to her and a shrine was build for the worshiping of Mary under a dead tree where the whole adventure started. The shrine was built there for the people to gather and worship Mary.
In the end, it was discovered that it wasn’t Mary that was speaking to the young teenage girl but a demon Who hides in the image of Mary to speak to her.
The mission of the demon according to the story was to harvest the soul of the worshipers as they pledge their faith to Mary.
So there was this guy in the movie who was leaving the city with his whole family to another city due to the advent of the wondrous.
When he was interviewed by some interviewers that why was he running away from the town, he said that it is good for God to stay up there in heaven and take whatever he wants here on earth than to come down here on earth.
He said one thing that quite arose my writing spruce.
He said whenever God comes down on earth, bad things happen. Then he said, what if someone has pieced God off already, everyone will be dead.
So in his belief, he would rather run for safety. Away from the town than wait for God to come down and meet him in the city where the whole eventuality was taking place.
He was running away from the city where the young girl resides to another city in the fear that if God comes down to that city bad things will happen on earth.
Yet he was moving to another city as though God cannot see or reach anywhere in the world.
He ended up saying that “the old testament god is a wrath God”
Now if I was the interviewer, I would have asked the guy running from his town to another town that what about God now dwelling in us and not just coming down here on earth.
In my observation, I would ask, was it really God that was responsible for all the evil in the old testament?
Do we think God will kill his creations just so that he can save the same people?
If our wicked parents wouldn’t do such a thing to their stubborn and wicked children how much more God we said is holy and a righteous God?
Isn’t this a twist on the personality of God?
Isn’t this how many view God; a God of wrath, who kills his children whenever he is angry?
Who kills and destroys people’s property whenever he comes down on earth just like the young man has just said?
Could it be that while God was secretly doing his good work of redemption of mankind from the sin of death the devil place them in, the devil was also on the other hand secretly behind the scene committing all kinds of atrocity in the name of God without the people knowing it and would thinking God to be responsible for all the killings and destruction?
Just as the story in the movie has painted out that it was a demon that hides behind the scene to do all the atrocities in the land, so also was the devil hidden behind the scene doing all king of evil work before the children Israel in the old testament.
In as much as God would want to reveal himself to the people in the old testament so that they can know God for themselves and know what God can do and can not do, they refuse and disbelief God and were dying in their unbelief in their numbers in the wilderness.
What they didn’t know was that in their disbelief in God, they were indirectly believing in the devil. And the devil was using the advantage to destroy them.
And this unbelief from their heart makes their case helpless such that God couldn’t help to stop them from dying in the wilderness.
Just as Jesus can only save us when we believe in him so also it was with the people of the old.
God could only save them if they had believed. But they refuse to believe in the gospel when preached to them by mosses and as such were dying in their numbers in the wilderness.
Just like the story in the movie, the face and the voice the young teenage girl was seeing and hearing was the face and the voice of marry but the hand that was behind the miraculous act was the hand of a demon from the devil who gives to them to take their soul from them.
So also in the old testament, while
The people were seeing the face of God in the Cloud speak to them from the cloud, they were busy accounting everything that was happening to them to God.
Unknowing to them that God was not responsible for the evil act but the devil.
This is who the devil is from the very beginning. he is a liar and has being a liar and a deceiver from the very beginning and he dwells in lying and deceiving the people.
But this is not who our God is. our God is a just and holy God who does not glory in the death and suffering of his people.
So if we truly want to know who our God is, we must study to learn from the life of Jesus who is the express image of God.
Who came to reveal the true nature of God to humanity.
That is why in the book of Luke 24:27 it says; “beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”
Everything in the scripture was all about Jesus and until we read the scriptures with the mind of seeking to meet Jesus we will never know God for ourselves.
IS THIS REALLY WHO OUR GOD IS?
